Hi MAGUS. Regarding your question on the Southampton gig. I phoned them a couple of days back, and it seems the problems THE BROOK was having now seem sorted. The Ozric tickets are available. May see you there perhaps!!?? Canny That's great news!...I heard that The Brook had been saved but Ozrics seems to be the only show they haven't put on sale online yet. I'll definitely make it down if I can. Anyone know if Joie & Merv are playing these shows? They were meant to be at Planet Gong a couple of months back but couldn't make it...

MAGUS.
Although THE BROOK website shows they are playing, the 'To Be Confirmed' (TBC) does show I admit, but that was comfirmed to me as we spoke!.
As I mentioned, I rang them a few days back and the guy told me it is definately now ON! The price he quoted was £12.50 and said come on up and get your ticket!
As for Joie and Merv, well I never asked and he never said, though I presume he'd not know - but I can't see why not (fingers crossed)!
Canny.

Hello everyone again, glad to be back in the interwebs. Everything crashed and the comp unfortunately died for two weeks. Nice man up the road resuscitated it for me though But still no plans to gig in Manchester? I'd love to see a gig here! Anyone else here from Manchester?

They're worth the travel though! I'm lucky enough to have friends in Sheffield, go and do some visiting whilst I'm there

I'll be at the Sheffield gig tonight - I'm quite excited, as I haven't seen the band with Merv and Joie since 1993! Wonder if they'll be there..... It'll be cool to go to the Boardwalk again, too - last time I was there was a Bad Manners gig about four years ago. Ah, nostalgia.

Get the synth stack away from centre-stage, please! I don't care who plays it - get that stack away from centre-stage! It gets in the way of the drum kit and makes the whole band asymmetrical.

Well went along to Sheffield's gig last night (my first Ozrics gig) - and I thought it was brilliant!
Actually seeing some of those tracks being played - amazing enough on the recording, but to expereience it. Wow.
Thanks guys - really, really enjoyed it.
So two questions (and shows some ignorance - but think 18 months ago I hadnt heard *any* Ozrics music): 1) Any idea what the set list was? I recognised Kick Muck and Sploosh (of course) - plus a couple I know but couldnt think of the names. 2) And who was actually playing (I know - I should know... but I dont... sorry.)
Jan (Who this morning over breakfast tried to tell my children about how good it was... and was met with blank looks. Oh well)

hey jan i have just posted the answers to your questions in a thread so have a look there. as for the kids, well mine still dont 'really' get it but since they saw the ozrics at eastern haze they kinda understand why i go so nuts for 'em i am the bald guy with braided beard that was flying around like a nutter with cameras!!

Hey Kitejan! I'm glad you enjoyed the Sheffield gig. I too was wondering who the bassist was - he was bloody good, though, eh? As far as the rest go - Ed Wynne was, naturally, on guitars and synths; Brandi Wynne was on synths, and Merv Pepler was on drums. I really enjoyed seeing Merv with the Ozrics again after all these years. That comment of Ed's "Merv says he's absolutely destroying his kit back there" made me chuckle!
I don't know if you noticed a guy in a white T-shirt writing stuff down on a bit of paper. That was me, and it was the set-list I was making notes of, so I'm happy to be able to provide that for you:
intro O-I Vita Voom Jurassic Shift a jam Erpland White Rhino Tea <interlude> the re-intro Snake Pit Sunscape The Throbbe Tidal Convergence Kick Muck
And the encore was - Spyroid Sploosh!
I was quite excited by Brandi saying that the band are starting to take two set-lists on tour, so people who follow the band for more than one gig have a chance to hear different stuff. That's a great idea.

Thanks for the response Greg & sideards - it's good to put names-to-faces-to-instruments. I'm not a musican myself (wish I was....) but yes I agree that they all were brilliant. Drums, Bass, Guitar, Synths - everything. I think it was the thing that really grabbed me when I heard my first Ozrics CD ('Bits Between the Bits' & Symetricum / Wreltch especially), so to experience it live was great. Still buzzing about it now :-) Nice to talk about it on here.....
Of course I saw sideards doing the filming (by the way is there going to be some DVD/Internet release of this footage?) but I didn't notice Greg writting anything down - by and large I was concentrating what was happning in front of me. By the way I was the late-30's guy, shortish hair, in a dark blue T-Shirt with a large horizontal light blue stripe and was (during the second set) center stage near front row just behind the lad with curly hair and the blue-ish ozrics T-shirt. And I wasnt writing or filming :-)
Thanks again
Jan

well the setlist i listed is the list that merv was playing from during the gig, i coulod no way be on the ball enough to know exactly which tracks are which, although i have been a fan for way in excess of 10 years i couldn't name most of the tracks but i could tell you where the key/tempo changes are etc as for dvd and/or web release of my footage we shall all have to wait and see. when i finally get round to editing it the decision will be ultimatley with the band whether it get 'out there' or not. as with ALL the acts MyChoonz film, once edited a dvd copy goes to the band and one into my personal collection. usually the artists are fine with a myspace version of their full set as the quality allowed on there makes it cool to see and hear but not really worth 'stealing'. if the footage and editing is deemed releasable MyChoonz and the artists(and relevant entourage like lights/sound etc) enter into further discussion about it. for the most part my footage is used for 'keepsake' value for the bands. a lot of folks don't realise how different gigs are for the bands playing than then they are for the audience. many of the bands i film use the footage as purely as a reference point, to get an idea what the performance was like for the audience and so that they can 'tweak' future performances. my personal copies are just that and i dont make copies without the full explicit permission from the band, some lucky folks who know me get to see 'the bits between the bits' occasionally when they visit, but the footage never leaves my possesion. without having this kind of 'policy' it is very unlikely that i would be allowed the not inconsiderable honour of filming and getting 'up close' with so many excellent bands as i/we do. this particular set was the first time i had done a 4 cam set single handed, when i have colleagues, i have to ask them to put their hands in their own pockets to get to gigs as i don't have the means to cover the costs let alone pay them, and i had arranged to be at the gig literally at the last few hours before it. a huge shame as i know justin and neil would have loved it!!! regrettably one of my camcorders finally 'died' that night costing me a fortune and breaking my heart just a little(aaawww). that camera has filmed many important events in my life, and an amazing array of gigs with various artists like hawkwind, space ritual(yes both bands in the space of a few weeks!!), ozrics, dream machine, nukli, and many dozens more. it was my favourite cam to 'hand operate' as it also had the feature to take stills to a memory stick whilst the tape was running without affecting the filming. the costs involved in what i do are paid for purely by myself and the tapes/travel etc cost me more than i can really afford let alone having to replace a camcorder. fortunatley good ol'e ebay to the rescue and i have a replacement cam which takes the same long life battery and also has the 'see in the dark' technology i love using for those 'special' interviews(of a sort i am hopeless at preparing questions!!) but it doesn't take stills lynds, i missed the support act but from what i can tell it depends where the gig is as to who is support. sorry folks for my 'extended' post, guess i shouldn't smoke a bong right after the kids go to school eh

Oooops, Sorry, I shouldnt spark one up before quoting either? I was wondering what kind of camera (Make or model) that you can take a still, without disrupting filming. I want to get a newer camera, I have a couple of Hi 8 mm, and now want to get a digital HD one, Sony or JVC maybe, would these newer cameras have that function also? and do you know which is a better buy, Cannon/Sony/JVC HD ones 1080i (Price/quality) thanks

thanks, I was looking at sony, my other 8mm are both Sony and yes they have taking quite a bit of abuse, skiing and -20 degree weather, but still work. one for 15 years now, the other for over 10. will be easy to load the footage into the PS3 also, and I already have a couple of the sony memory sticks for my still camera. Does it take stills while filming, could be good for me because I film my kid and his friends quite a bit when they are doing their ski tricks. jumps and rails, cliffs all that crap.

oh I see you answered that question, I am thinking of one with hard disc drive incorporated probably. (mini dv thats like a mini dvd right) anyways thanks for the info I trust any smokn Ozrics fan point of view 100% NOT like mini dvd at all actually man! minidv tapes are tiny digital video cassettes. the results i have seen from mini DVD and hard drive camcorders are fairly poor in comparison with mini dv. the minidv format has been used by proffesionals for a few years now, i havent played with high def as minidv are of broadcast quality( so long as the tape setting isn't on long play/record) the top end of the market are pro cams which should all be over 1000 pounds. however the high end cams bought on the high street (prosumer models) are very close to the same standard for far less money, the offset being their ruggedness. try to avoid cheaper models as much as you can afford as it DOES make a substantial difference.

thanks for the info, had to replace hard drive on my laptop, and was all fucked up on getting everything back in order. misplaced all my passwords somewhere. glad everything is ok now. I think it about it still, but prob go with sony hd wide screeen 1080i or maybe 1080p but I dont see much difference on a 46 in tv. To much hype I swear I play a 1080 p movie like Casino Royale BD on the PS3 and if you switch to 1080i, its almost unoticable except maybe on some of the clothing fabric or hair strands, whatever. thanks for the info, I might still look into the mini dv tape. in some ways tape is kinda smoother I think regarding motion. (was that way before I dont know if thats been improved or not)

Hey I saw the mini DV tape ones on G4 tech TV, looks like its what I need, HD tape, wide screen, and they say it looks great on a HD TV. 720 x 1280. better than the hard disc ones according to them also. Gotta save a bit now,

Erm, what exactly is an "Ozric live chill set"? Slightly hard to imagine, but apparently there's going to be one on the 3rd May in the Synergy Centre.
