Well I wasn't joking, but I never put it together. I guess the bass player on Oddentity, Zia perhaps, copied that song. I just thought it was interesting. Never thought of Ozric as a cover band. Just kidding, I know it was honorable.
Thanks for the heads up, I will have to listen to that Billy Cobham album again.
Peace

Hey Bish, I'm sure the similarity was discussed before. I personally always thought Myriapod sounded a bit like Holy Wars by Megadeth.....and Ed does have a slightly Marty Friedman look to him! I'm sure there are loads more.

Hi Sparky, hows everything, glad to see Ozrics are touring again, wondering if they will do any Canadian dates, if as in the past I guess probably not, So thinking about maybe trying to get to New York, or if there was a Boston Gig one would be a tad closer, Hey I actually have that Billy Cobham album, one of my other tracks I liked on it was Snoopys search, and Stratus is also a good one, it is also in that violent game GTA. Here all is cool, having some good weather, was down in V. Islands and Turks Caicos in Feb March had a blast. So maybe if Lucky they'll come and play in Montreal or something, Dont know why they never do, because there are a lot of Ozric fans there. but if not well maybe time for a road trip to N.York if all can work out. Say a big hello to Susan for me also. Gord

I see san francisco is added to Ozric tour dates . thats a little far from home here In the mountains of San Diego ....
********Please play San diego or Los Angeles at least Or better yet Both . Im happy to hang and handout out flyers around . Belly up Tavern or winstons are fun venues in San diego That would get a great response from the Nature space sounds of the Ozric Tentacles.
High Sierra Music festival In northern Ca Fourth of july weekend Would be great outdoor place to see you guys .HSMF has all night late night sets also . Lots of trees ,rivers nearby , Nice people and realy kick back vibe

Suzy says "hi" as well... it would be really nice to meet up with you at the NYC gig... i'm watching for a possible Boston gig the following night, then we could get 2 in ... no ozric gigs in '08 so we need to make up for that! hope to see you Brandi, if you're reading this... you guys should really try to get to Montreal, there's some great clubs like the Metropolis that would be perfect for you...and it's an hour away from us instead of hours and hours, not that i'm complaining... we'll travel to see you, you know that.

You know it. KUNC freaked me out by playing a little interview and then Yum Yum Tree. I think we may have met after one of the shows late last year??? Are you British? Driving down main street today I noticed... You live in Fort Collins? NP: The Yum Yum Tree Courtesy of NPR! KUNC?

SERIOUSLY looking forward to seeing and experiencing the Ozric's in Cleveland. I was relatively recently turned onto the band by Bill Iammarino a local college radio host who I hook up with every couple of weeks to push the musical envelope around here on 88.7 WJCU. I've very quickly acquired a pretty large catalogue of Ozric's music. Yum Yum Tree is simply masterful. Looking forward to perhaps meeting the band before or afterwards!

The show last night was really good. I think they have stepped up thier playing and have tightening up before going out on tour. I feel a litlle spoiled since I live kind of on the front range up here in Cheyenne, Wy and have been able to see them I think 4 or 5 times in the last year in Colorado. For me last nights show was the best of the last year so get out there and see them. The Aggie was pretty sparse with people last night but the people that were there were definetly Ozric fans or are now.

I did order a Yum Yum tree T-shirt back in April but it hasnt arrived yet, probably get it soon as they say its ships whithin 28 days. Anyways have a great time and I really did hope for a possible good date for my schedule, But work still comes first and play a close second. will still keep an eye on tour dates who knows maybe somthing in July or August might be possible.

SF show - 5.27.09 - what happened?
Seriously, where did the music go? Last time I experienced the Ozrics was back in 1997. Full band, with instruments. Now, only 3 1/2 heads on stage, playing with pre-recordeded music from their keyboards/DAT tapes. well, and the 10 second guitar riffs (every now n then...). imho, the whole show look staged. only one that was truely performing - the drummer.
Any other SF'rs on this board go to the show - would love to hear your opinion.

I was at the SF show and quite enjoyed it. However, if that was the first time you had seen them since '97, then yeah, it is a pretty different incarnation at this point. I started seeing them in '94 on the 1st US tour (with Merv, Joie, Jon, Ed and Zia). Needless to say it was mind blowingly amazing. I have seen them at just about every stage since then and have watched what they have changed into. They certainly do a lot more sequenced tracks these days, and I too do wish there was more of a "band" feel throughout as well. And I really miss Jon and the wind instruments on many of the tracks.
That being said, I like what they do now and am fine with it. I still have a hope they move back towards a more cohesive band unit type thing, but I am also not holding my breath.
Oh and lastly... I really wish Silas had been on stage for the whole show. The 1st half was great, but the 2nd half, which was much more sequenced and Silas-free, was not as exciting to me.
Anyhow - wishing them continued luck on this mini US tour and I hope they enjoy the Colorado living!

I flew in from LA to catch the SF show, which is the first time I'm watching them, and I thought it was *totally* worth it! I'd also like the band-type stuff more, but I'm not complaining in the least bit. I thought the show was really enjoyable on its own merits, especially since I didn't have a previous reference point.
Eagerly looking forward to the next California date!

hey all! i was at the SF show. it was my first OT show... and it did feel like the relied more than i expected on sequenced stuff. HOWEVER, Brandi was thumping all night, Ed was awesome and the drummer was incredible. It's cool to think that this show - the most enjoyable show i've ever seen - was only a "watered down" version of OT. maybe nothing special by ozrics standards, but considering how awesome it was compared to most of the other crap that i usually end up seeing, i'm thinking all you old timers are spoiled!
also.. i'm wondering if anyone has a setlist from that show. (i wasn't exactly up to the task of writing anything down) that would be greatly appreciated. also... is there any way to get this show in mp3 form? thanks.. all the best!

Just caught the band at the Independent in San Francisco this week May 27, 2009. It was an amazing show and I posted a full review here: douglasharr.wordpress.com Take a look and comment on my review as to what you think!
Catch them if you can on any of the remaining dates. Ed was in top form and played one of my absolute favorite tracks from Strangeitude, called Saucers. Tracks from the new album were awesome. Definitely hypnotic and psychotic!
