Lead sound on Nakuru?

Hi all. Long time Ozric fan since I stumbled upon Waterfall Cities 20 some years ago. Just joined this forum to ask one question - anyone know what keyboard was used for the lead sound on Nakuru from Yum Yum Tree? I know it’s a ring modulator effect but what is source? And whoever is playing it is a fantastic musician. I’ve been a synth player since the late 70s and this has me stumped. Thanks!

The ring mod on the lead sound makes it pretty hard to hear any identifying characteristics that might point to what synth it is. It could be just about any sound really. Ed seems to use Novations a lot these days but I can't remember when he started using those exactly. it could easily be any VA synth I'd say.

I'd bet that it's Ed playing it though. Joie has a guest credit but it's not for that track, according to Wikipedia.

Ed does a solo before Plurnstyle with that sound. Maybe that's the synth.

Good find. Had a quick look, not sure what synth he's got on the bottom of his stand there but I think it's a Novation Supernova. According to the Wikipedia entry for that synth it has onboard ringmod. I'd say that's a pretty likely candidate.

Thank you!!!!!! Appreciate the links. My Roland Fantom 8 has a ring mod and a zillion waveforms and I haven’t gotten that sound coaxed out yet. Never played a Novation I’ll look into it. Play on!

I have a Novation Summit arriving at my studio tomorrow. Just in time for Rick Wakeman show in SF I'm going to tomorrow night (which has nothing to do with Novation but I might want to stay home and play)

Well... I have been having a blast with the Novation Summit, I have a degree in electronic music, and still haven't figured that sound out. There is an onboard ring mod section, but does not behave like I expected. Wondering if he used an outboard ring mod. Thanks for everyone's help. Troy
