For those who remember the two Ozrics 'Erpitaph' fan CD's I helped to put together a few years ago - I have decided to MP3 them both and add them as a download on my website. I'll probably have them up before the end of the weekend. The original artwork and artist contact details will be included in the zip files, so please contact the musicians involved and tell them how good they are!
Don't even mention Soulseek - I'm logged on too infrequently to host them via SS. Once a few folk have downloaded the files I'm sure they'll make their way on.

Any plans to do another at some point Nick? Everyone has a myspace nowadays pretty much but it's always nice to hear and see people's tunes compiled. Feels so proper

No, no plans for another one - although I'm not stopping anyone else from doing it! They were quite fun to put together, and we all got to hear some great tunes - my favourites are the Aaron Maise track from CD1 and the 'Etherealise' tracks from CD2, I really liked those. Personally of course I think my version of The Throbbe is great

i reckon it would be fun - there's quite a few who could do tracks now too - soundtrap, the ob-test, the autumn machinery, the ninth tentacle, to name but a few that i can immediately call to mind from myspace who i imagine would be happy to give it a stab - in fact the ob-test already have versions of some tracks and some by King Crimson if you ever liked them at all (!?) .

WOW!I've been listening to the cds and they're awesome!Very early Ozrics feel, but with better production. The 1st one especially is great, very floaty and ethereal-I'd say overall I like it more than floating seeds remixed.

Agreed Philly. Daniel did the fender rhodsey tune I think, Lunar something? I'll dig it out when I get home....Steve's tune - although it starts out as Crackerblocks - meanders into a lovely mellotron choir piece.

I'm thinking about putting together a cover of 'Music to Gargle At' from Tantric Obstacles. Anyone else interested in stoking up some ozrics covers for another round?

Well if you're putting something together Dan I'd be happy to contribute something Sounds good. I'm happy to compile if there's enough interest from contributors of course. I can host downloads too, if needed This is jumping way ahead but I should just say in advance that I have no printer!

I'm sure there are tons of artistic types on here who could help with art and printouts and so on. Maybe we can do an ozrics inspired disc of people's tunes too? Or is that jumping way too ahead!!

Wow, I've never seen your artwork before Philly. I like it. I found it a little bit like HRGiger meets Rick Griffin. Its about time you were comissioned by this band to do a cd sleeve.

Aerocolour inks on cardboard 70x50 cm. Yeah, Giger has always been my inspiration. Must check out Rick Griffin. Kirk I will bung pictures up of my jacket if i can work out how to use one of the picture hosting sites.....

I knew you liked Giger, I've been a fan of his since the first Alien film came out, got all his books etc. I've never seen one of his artworks in the flesh but I bet you might have over there ?. Rick Griffin was the guy who did all the Grateful Dead stuff and did all the Psychedelic posters from the 60s and 70s - great stuff.
Well good Philly !

What sort of format would you prefer tunes to be in Dan? I have some Ozric tunes I have covered but only in mp3. I wouldn't mind recording something new though. Would wav be best you think?

Nice stuff, I recall seeing this a few years ago. Pic 04 would be a great album cover for Erp 3, maybe we could call it laval spaceship or something...

I think wav would definitely be best, assuming we're talking a physical CD here. That would be my preference, but if we end up going the 'download only' option, I guess it will all end up as MP3 anyway. But more importantly, before we figure all that stuff out, are there enough other contributors interested? And should it be covers only? Or, as with the last one, covers and originals inspired by? Personally I think it might be nice to do covers only (but maybe loosely based on, meandering versions that end up somewhere else which is always fun) but what do you all think?

I think a 2 disc thing would be great Dan with 1 disc Pure covers (albeit in whatever mutated form) and 1 disc original compositions inspired by Ozrics. I will happily contribute to both discs. And I'm sure there are plenty on here who would do the same when they eventually read this thread

From experience it will hard to get a full CD of covers, but I'd like to be proved wrong.

I'll throw one in - or one and some kinda cover if I get time (and they're considered good enough)
* * * * * *
Another thread here made me wonder about a compilation of covers of the very early unreleased stuff (ie pre-Erpsongs cassette). There were some great raw ideas and there'd be no copyright issues.
Could be very loose covers - variations ofn some riff or phrase, tight copies true to original structure, digital cut'n'paste remixes, whatever.
Probably hard to get a full CD of covers as Nick Toone says. How about a virtual jam kinda thing where someone starts by recording a backing vamp or riff and puts the digital file or disc up for grabs so others can add so many bars of noodling, pads, variations or whatever? Not too hard to do with digital formats.
