I'm wondering if Kirk's idea of emailing/posting tadpoles might be another process we could use? yes i think this is a good idea i will email you any tadpoles he sends my way . id suggest the stuff you put on the top could be just one or tracks , as it would take less time and leave space for the next person to add some , but then again maybe add loads of stuff , its your call

I used to mess around on what I think was the first online music collaboration, "Res Rocket." We'd swap MIDI files and audio tracks -- on a 166 mhz PC with a little tiny modem....
It folded years ago -- has anyone tried anything simillar recently? Anything worthwhile and, er, free..?

Another scale used quite a bit by Ed is the Lydian Mode. The spacey middle section of Ayurvedic and Oolite Groove being 2 examples. This is a scale used quite often by Vai, Satriani, and Zappa. I had the opportunity to sit down and talk with Ed and Seaweed after an Atlanta gig several years ago. They were playing songs from the newly released Curious Corn which I had yet to purchase. I asked about the new jam they were doing based on the Lydian mode and neither were aware of the name of the mode. I don't remeber what it was but they had their own name for it. The Lydian mode is the major scale with the fourth note raised a half step. It has a very airy, spacey quality. Check out Satriani's "Flying in a Blue Dream" for another great example of this mode in use.

Other famous uses of Lydian scale I noticed over wkend;
Frank Zappa -Zoot allures (the opening chord which is Lydian harmonized in A). Joe Satriani - Circles (This is exactly the same chord as Franks)

for those of you comfortable with the lydian modal scale , May I suggest the Lydian #9 scale , this is built on the 6th degree of the harmonic minor scale . Just to right of the Om riff ! Ozrics/ED have used this scale if only by chance ? , In the Key of A 1 octave : E string (6): fret 5 fret 8 A string (5) fret 4 6 and 7 D string fret 4 6 7
Another aproach would be to use a "bOX" to play in this is what many blues guitarist have down. It limits the harmonic range and creates a very vocal aproach . Think of Kick Muck ( An ozric swan song ? ) any way this this little 4 note box Take strings G and B on the G string fret 10 and 12 on the B string fret 9 and 12 . cool hey ?!

yes thats cool Damien !
I never thought of that first E chord in our composition as being Lydian, I thought of it as being a sus E chord cos theres no G, but Lydian it is. Sharp fourth, perfect fifth. HMMM.. I think I will revisit this piece tonight.
Hows that Mule going on ? getting into it ?

Not Sure about Kick Muck being a Swan Song though...
Swans supposedly sing only once and before they die... so it sort of implies our Ozrics are now defunct. Maybe Kick Muck could be an Owl call into the eternal purple void of elctrohootus though ? then again... I'll get me coat..

instead of trying to learn what other people have played may i suggest as your a new guitarist that you plug it in and start by turning the bass up full,middle down to zero and treble up full and the volume on 7 and make a right distorted racket. it,ll sound shit but you,ll have a great time.
solos are always more pleasing to the ear when there not sounding all trebly(on high bends or double octive bends)so to combat this just turn the middle to zero.you,ll get a longer more cleaner note and the sustain will be nice too.
good luck mate
