Obviously as far as I know touring isn't going to stop any time soon, as this is where most non-mainstream musicians earn their bread from. Yet, as I was watching the footage from the early to mid 90s that Erpman uploaded, I noticed how Ed seemed way more into the proceedings on stage than he has done in most videos I've seen in the last, I don't know, almost decade? Sure there are moments when he seems to be very into it, but overall he seems far less enthusiastic on stage than he did in the past. I reckon he can't quite imagine his life without playing music, so the question arises: has the constant touring taken its toll on him? Is it just an age thing? Are Ozrics gigs more demanding and therefore more stressful? All of the above? None of the above? What do you guys reckon?

In my opinion Ed has not lost anything he is just another guy who has not so good a days like the rest of us but never sells the crowd short. I am not an authority on Ozric gigs and my 24 gigs is no record but have seen them play 10 years. I did really enjoy the 7 gigs I seen this year and a lot has to do with Balazs on drums as he is the best Ozric drummer I've seen. You should have seen the faces of the band when at Alkmaar it seemed they where going to play in front of about 30 with only 30 minutes to go by the time gig started the place had filled and what a mad crowd they where... ''it was brill'' however the best gig I saw was Liverpool and Ed was AWESOME at both these gigs.... inspired by the crowd I'm sure. I love Ozric Tenacles and hope they continue to play great at all gigs. Worst Ozric gig I've seen.........dont have one.

Cool Eddie I'm glad you've had a great time, not to mention I envy you for seeing them. I wasn't referring to Ed's performance - that's another thing altogether. I was talking about what he looks like on stage. I mean I loved the 2010 gig in Athens, one of the best times I've seen them. Still his presence was much more static than, say, the 2002 Pongmasters.
Since you mentioned performance though, a big difference I've noticed is that he plays more synths nowadays. Not so much solos as sound manipulation, which can lead to truly otherworldly and/or completely mental soundscapes.

has someone who has lived his entire adult life recording gigging and touring, who has just made a stonking double album AND resuscitated his old ambient backing group in between tours promoting the thirtieth anniversary of his band and the new album got tired - almost certainly not permanently , although with all that on maybe temporarily.
which leads me to diversify - did syd barret actually get damaged, or was he just high when they were looking at him, and in a climate of denial...

It's been going on for a while now though... Well, I guess as long as the performances are good this is of secondary importance. It's just that when he sways about or shakes his head smiling it spreads some positive vibes to the audience. About Barrett, for me it was a combination of some latent mental disorder and biting way more than he could chew. Some cruel "jokes" from his circle of acid "friends", like locking him in a confined space while he was having a bad trip may well have tipped him over the edge. He seemed to be unable to compromise his vision of the band with the industry's demands as well. I am not in any way implying that Ed's the same at all btw.
