post your thoughts here ;D my head is still thumping this morning...how loud is Merv top gig, seemed like the band really enjoyed themselves, smiles and laughs all round...some weird and wonderful synth noises helping there. watching Ed send Vinnny (top bass BTW) off into the ether with some long spiralling solos was great, then he would snap back and blast off with Merv into another head-banger. The new track is great,a lovely long version (even without the bass for a bit ) but it ebbs and flows really nicely. wonder what it's called ? great atmosphere,in some ways better than the sunrise gig as the audience were all fans for sure. just really nice to see ozrics flowing off each other and going with it... happy birthday too Merv thanks

Indeed a great gig. I managed to get hold a copy of the set list:
0 - I VITA VOOM JURASSIC SHIFT SYNTH JAM SUNSCAPE SNAKEPIT THE THROBBE ERPLAND WHITE RHINO TEA TIDAL KICK MUCK SPYROID (Intro only..) SPLOOSH!
We had a perfect view right down at the front, though Brandi was sometimes partly hidden by her keys. Vinny looked a bit mean on his Bass, and he can play a bit too! Merv was just manic, 110%, and a joy to watch. Ed was just Ed - he da' man! And Brandi was impressive.
I'm not sure what song it was during when Vinny had problems with his Bass - possibly through the synth jam Paradiddle? - but the band rode it well enough. Funny how these things happen for no reason - then a bit of a kick and a wiggle it's all OK again! I saw Merv put his headphones on at the start of one song, and later in that song he jerked his head back to remove them whilst still playing. Kinda cool that..
So many changes, timings and moods to the songs, I sometimes found myself just watching one member and dug them. Their expressions and body language are interesting to note. The synth jam was a trip and the 'new' song they played was great.
Can I mention the Flute? Good! Yeah, I missed it. But hey, if you ain't gonna have a flute in the band anymore, this was the best possible way to sound without it!
Yes, the band seemed happy, as did the crowd. Nice to sing Happy Birthday to Merv as well!
If that gig was something, something more was to come! My friend worked on someone, somewhere, somehow, because she disappeared for 15 minutes or so, only to come back and say 'Steve, grab your pint, let's go and meet the band'! I was like WHAT!
Being a newcomer to their gigs (this was only my second with the band) I felt really wow like!
We walked up these stairs, into this room and I saw Vinny sat there, ya know, just sat there! Ha! I simply went and sat next to him, shook his hand, and we chatted for 20 minutes or so. Lovely bloke. Sound. I recall saying to him when we eventually left! - 'Vinny, don't you go leaving this band will you' - he replied 'I won't'!
The 20 minute chat with Vinny ended because Ed appeared from this other room. I stood up, offered my hand, which he took, and I almost bowed as we shook, like you would with some one from the royal family! Doh! Aw, he was great, though a tad serious, which was fine. I had some serious questions! He found it 'cool' that I was into THE HIDDEN STEP album at present, and was curious to know what I thought about his contribution on the Jordan Rudess album - as I mentioned I heard it a few days ago. Ed himself has not hear the final mix see. I asked a number of questions, but, and this is a bummer, I was pissed, not falling around or 'singing' some of their songs, but basically too drunk to recall what I asked. No, that's not right. I recall in the main what I asked, just I can't recall what all of Ed's answers were. d**n... I know Ed said that the band are working on material right now, but I guess Ed never stops. He is the man, I told him that, though it/I sounded cheesey, but he was OK with it. Ha!
Merv appeared! Just like that! I think he came out of the room where Ed was in. Bless him, he said he was so knackered. And I guess he looked it, though when you look at his output tonight, well I'm sure it must catch up. But he was chatty, funny, and was happy to have a photo with me. In fact I managed to get a photo with each of them, except Vinny. I did get a cracker of a photo though with Merv giving Vinny a 'peck' on the cheek! We spoke mainly about drumming, Eat Static and, I think curries! I met his charming wife too.
We were about to leave when Brandi appeared. She was lovely, really nice. Gave me a lovely warm genuine hug and seemed down to earth. I needed the loo so quickly nipped downstairs, when half way down I heard Brandi say - 'oh, bye then Steve'. 'Eh'? I thought. Then I realised she must of thought I was going! As if I would, without saying goodbye, and to leave my friend as well! I replied along the lines of 'no, I'm not going, just gonna use the loo. I'll be back!
Had the quickest jimmy ever, then managed to chat with Brandi again. And yep, I mentioned that as good as the gig was tonight, I missed the flute at times. She was understanding. And why not? Mind you, she told me she can play the flute as well....and of course the Bass. (I mentioned to Ed too that I missed the flute at times tonight. We touched on that. It was cool)
Man, what can I say about last evening? It has to go down as one of my highlights regarding music/gigs etc ever. I could ramble on - I recall chatting to some roadies / lighting crew / drivers kinda guys. They were a laugh, even when they laughed at me!.
Took loads of photos of the gig itself, but ya know, on a phone camera, though it's 2 million pixels, quite a few came out poor. Nevermind. I cannot complain when I look back!
I know she's not on here, but she may join - a big kiss X and hug to Sue, my dear friend, who made this all happen after the gig.
I gotta walk the dog and get some air.
Peace, love and magik.
Steve 'Canny'

Did they do the version of Sunscape like the one on Live underslunky with the amazing keyboard solo at the end thats so good you don't want it to stop. I think i'm well missing out here, coz i'm about the only one on here it seems who hasn't seen them live yet, and Jurassic shift, i have yet to hear that tune live at all, the only stuff i've heard of them live is the live stuff they've released on cd...i aint the same as being there.

WATERMILL.
I'll be real honest mate - regarding your 'Sunscape' question, I cannot recall off hand. Maybe PARADIDDLE can help on this one??
You have though enticed me to go and play that version from Underslunky - yeah, it's cool the way it goes off.
Where are you based then? Have they played anywhere near your town, or likely to? Canny...

Erith in Kent mate...i would love to go and see them live, but its a case of none of my mates are really inti them and i don't fancy going on my own to a gig. Its a bit like going pictures on your own, you just feel a bit odd. The nearest place they have performed is the other side of the water in east london.

i went on my own,but it's not far for me. nice really,in a selfish kinda way. sorry watermill i don't think sunscape was as you described...now if they had played sunhair !!! i have an idea that "synthjam" is the code for the un-named new song ? it's great whatever it is... as you say, sabbra watching the band upclose was great. upstairs was good for that. Merv cracked me up,counting in with one stick to Vinny, then actually using the other stick and starting on the off-beat ! naughty oh and Jurassic was awesome,i love the way it shifts back and forth, quiet and loud. i had an "armchair journey" listening to it once, during the quiet bit (around 5min 30) with Erp making his way quietly home through the forest so as not to disturb the beasties. he comes across a honey pot and can't stop himself tasting some of their delicious sweetness. as he licks his fingers clean the forest half-light seems to dim even more and the leaves begin to shimmer(voices on the wind ?),their green colour magnified....just as he dips his hand in for a last golden......"ouch" stung by a hallucinogenic bee !! (8.06 ed's solo) ;D
