19th Sept, The Standard.
I've been to about 6 or 7 Ozrics gigs now, and that was one of their worst. And it wasn't because of their performance. The sound there was absolutely awful. The drums were amplified WAY too loudly, which distorted the sound of everything else, the bass guitar wasn't loud enough (bass guitar being such an important part of the dynamics of the band (on most tracks)) and Brandi's equip was too low aswell. On the other hand, I could quite clearly hear Eds guitar and keys for a change! Hoorah! They actually played well, but it was just a mess, sound wise. Man, bad sound at gigs gets me down. There were plenty of people enjoying themselves there anyway, probably pissed, but because I love the Ozrics and music in general so much, and really appreciate clear and balanced sound, I just can't enjoy a gig so much when it's like that. One cool thing was that Zia was there in the audience and it was cool to see him spazzing out to Sploosh at the end. Oh, and Brandi kissed me on the cheek! :D Well, I can't complain much. I also saw them a few weeks back at Solfest and they were absolutely brilliant, and the sound was really good, too. One of the best Ozrics gigs I've been to, even compared to gigs from the old John on flute days. That whole festival was wicked. System 7 were AMAZING, as were Eat Static again. And Nodens Ictus was really nice. Oh well, I'm going to see Rush in under two weeks, 3rd row, at Wembley ;)

Yeah, the sound could have been better, but there were moments when it was clear and not so confused (removing the DI box off the top of the bass amp sorted out that awful hum!) and the atmosphere was good. From where me and Zia were at the front middle, we could hear more of the on-stage monitoring than anything else, so perhaps that altered what we heard? Had a great time though as, it seems, did everyone else :-)

Agree with the above about the sounds in some places and also the bass volume, especially on Jurassic Shift and Sploosh.
I was pretty disappointed when I saw that Joie wasn't in the lineup, but nonetheless it was a really good show, miles better than the last two I saw, at Pongmasters 06 and Haze 07.
Throbbe, Tidal Convergence, Kick Muck and the new track + jam all sounded awesome!

Mindflux,
I would have stood in the centre with you, but I couldn't stand that flashing light thing! Were you that girl hangin' with Zia? I was that guy with a yellow vest covered with Buddhas.
Grerman,
Yeah... Joie wasn't there. He wasn't at the Solfest performance either, even though he was actually around, as Eat Static played too. Maybe it's a too-many-cooks situation. But that guy playing bass with the band currently is excellent, that's why I was so disappointed with his lack of volume. He was brilliant at Solfest.

ONSLO.
Many thanks for the review on that gig.
So, there was Ed and Brandi and this bassist, but no Joie. Was Merv drumming?

Yeah, Merv was drumming. He's so excellent! He was amazing at Solfest... you would not believe his playing on Sploosh there. He was playing the ride so relentlessly, the best version of Sploosh I've ever heard, on CD or live.

Sorry, had to laugh - no, I was the guy with dreads next to Zia and our 2 girlies were there aswell I write, produce and perform with Zia in his band, Zubzub (as well as a few others!) Yeah, the light was a bit intense, eh? The curtain of dreads came in handy at those spectacular points!

hey 'flux, how you and zia both doing these days? recovered from the trauma of the glade festival yet? any word on the next zubzub release?? questions, questions... Hey Sparks :-) Yeah, we're both really good thanks! Been a busy, if somewhat dampened Summer (resulting in a clutch of cancelled performances!), but those that have happened have been great. We now have a busy Winter indoors - how strange to be playing inside again Well, the word is the next release is coming along nicely! We're recording and producing at quite a pace at the moment and have a load of new potential tracks for an EP we are doing (having said that, we pretty much have an album's worth now, so who knows, what will happen. Can't say much more than that at this stage, but you guys will be among the first to know anything...... If anyone wants to hear some of our new tracks, we are playing some of them out live at the moment - come check us out at the wonderful Synergy Project (just about the best party in London at the momeny) at SeOne (under the Arches at London Bridge), next Friday 5th October - will be a hot one ;D
