Thinking about getting a tattoo of the Pongmaster. First off, what is the significance of him with the Ozrics and also, does anyone have any good pics?

This may or may not be accurate, it's my idea of where the Pongmaster comes from.
In 1992 OT graced the cover of NME in the UK. 2 weeks later the same publication (the NME) was having a go at the band (build em knock em down- NME do that to everyone). Now in the process of knocking the band they said all the fans were crusties and they invented silly names for the members of the band. Ed as I recall was refferred to as Stinkfinger and Joie was ciderbrain or something daft.. So I believe the idea of The Pongmaster was as a reaction to this, the band just used the wizardy fella of the Pungent sleeve and called him a Pongmaster (a sort of top crustie type bloke). They never featured in NME again..

NME were only interested while jurassic shift was doing the rounds. you can't get a scene together as far as NME are concerned, unless you are a whole bunch of groups appearing around the same time from the same town with the same musical ideals... although they love to paint themselves up as the supporting the alternative mmusic scene NME are in fact the biggest institution-whores of the lot...

Kirk, are you referring to the name of the Erpman or the name in general? As you are aware Pongmaster was referred to long before on SGW.
I remember a great article in Vox, I think, or maybe Q, with Ed and Joie vying (vai-ing) with Joe Satriani after a gig... those were the days.

when they said shitfinger (it was i recall) that was a jokey article like they sometimes did a few weeks after featuring someone, and used that as a name, i think they referred to the dark stain that can collect on the thumb of an avid solid-toker...

skunks are smelly... and they're black and white with stripes, which is a pretty unearthly looking combination on most creatures - it plays havoc with my eyes... maybe there's the konnektion with skunks and pongs and stripes and stuff...??

I seem to remember it was some sort of joke name between Ed and Roly when they were kids, and that it actually stems from farting.....

I asked Ed where the Pongmaster came from when I interviewed him for my radio show in early June. He said it came from him overhearing someone out on the street say something in a foreign language that sounded like "Pongmaster", and it just kind of took off from there. If you missed it, you can download the interview here: www.mediafire.com/?sharekey=e94c9f0d04f276f136df4e8dca141969e04e75f6e8ebb871

you're kidding ! i think i remember being baffled by the NME interviewer mentioning that there were weeds everywhere... what the state of the garden has to do with musical ability is quite beyond me !

Sorry to be a numpty, but how do I download it? That site's just leading me round in circles. Do I have to buy something or sign up for something first? Seems to work ok for me. When you click on the link, it should bring up a page that (in the middle) has something that says Ozric Interview June 2009.mp3 and Showing items 1 through 1 out of 1 in this folder underneath of it. Click on the Ozric Interview June 2009.mp3 link and it should take you to a page with a bunch of ads and a yellow box that says Click here to start download... in it. Click that, and you should get a save file dialog box. Does any of that match what you see? Make sure you've got the link right too - there's a lot of letters and numbers in it and it may have gotten cut off if you tried to copy/paste it. Here's a tinyurl I made for it that you can try too (should go to the same place as the other one): tinyurl.com/lcrfj3

I have 2 puters here. One sees the yellow download box, the other sees "You requested: Ozric Interview June 2009.mp3 (53.99 MB)" in the same place with a folder icon saying "Browse public files" that links to a load of ads. Weird, will investigate when not busy, but downloading file on other machine now.
So thanks!
