A few years ago I went to a Pongmasters Ball, it was the one with Hal Waters on keyboards. There, I stared talking to an old time fan (since the late 80s) and we agreed that Spirals - the then current album - was more like a solo project than an Ozrics album. I think The Floor... is almost that too. Although I like both albums, I have to admit that I miss the vibe (and tightness) of a band playing together for some time, as well as the flow of ideas that comes from the input of more than one person. I know that Ed has always been the mastermind, but if you look, for example, at the credits on Waterfall Cities, Zia and Seaweed contributed in a few tunes and there were also a couple of group compositions (or jams, perhaps). What do you people think?
On a different subject, I'd like to know why Jon was sacked. I think he often played out of tune, but is that the (only) reason?

Ok, so everyone clearly disagrees...It feels as though no one is allowed to do anything else but give praise, though. On a last negative note from me ever, I don't think that tracks like music to gargle at or the green island are masterpieces of experimentaton...but that doesn't stop me from loving every single Ozrics album&going to every gig I can - they ARE my favourite band ever, after all.

no, it's just that some of us have witnessed the ugly message board action that happened after john was sacked... and we don't want mike's nice shiny new board here to get all messy with a renewal of that controversy... that's all.

I missed that completely...I don't do forums apart from this one, really. Was it on this message board? Has anything been revealed? Where can I find out? Sorry if I upset anyone, it certainly wasn't my intention. But, like I said, no more negativity from me anyway. I can't wait to see them live again. Please Ozrics, get out into Europe, lots of people are waiting!

oh, it was all on the old Rubbish Records board... some of the ugliness may still be posted there, I can't go there anymore because of the bad vibes...

Yeheh.. i wish to say is that Ed has been a friend of mine for so many years.. when we met at Sunrise there were no ill feelings between us,in fact the rumour that 'Jon gave Ed a great big hug' as seen on the Dream Machine website should be reviewed with caution as in fact the 'headline' should have read .. well if you replace the h in headline with er, for example dr.. then that moight be a trifle jellied closer to the 'truth'....Coming from a family of judges i'm still finding it hard to come up with a decision :)so thread matey, try to think happy thoughts and everything will be all right up tight outta sight and groovy... don't worry, er be hippy... soorry, er that joke tie-dyed a deeth.. but thats all for now folks !!!

Speaking of 'solo projects', Champignon- how is that solo album coming along? Would love to hear that!! Last I remember it being mentioned you had sorted out some 'puter problems and were starting to make progress...

I think he often played out of tune... Hmmm not sure I agree.... I thought it was more a problem of not being able to hear the flute in the mix half the time! I'm sure I've said this before but I think the flute gave the band a different sound that set it apart, sort of like Simon House with hawkwind on violin...

It could have been a combination of both!? Apparently he's now bought some mixer which helps sorting the flute sound out, ie makes it more audible. Not that I noticed the difference, but then I haven't attended anything with him involved for a long time. Personally, I think there are better flute sounds around, eg in Hadouk Trio.

'Ello Jon. Nice to see you here. Ian Anderson of Jethro Tull uses some gizmo attatched to his flute, so he can roam free and not have to play into the mike - and you can hear him in the mix! Might be pricey though.

Don't know if it's the flute that miss or Mister Champ' himself...both, I think...As I have seen just once the line up without Jon, I really felt that there was something missing...a kind of link between The Ozrics and the audience that wasn't there any more, especially when you're a strictly instrumental band...flute or not, out of tune or not...

(on the odd occasion i'd blagged it backstage). ;D
