I bought the new Muse album the other day, Resistance. It's a bit cheesy in places, but on the whole it's quite a good album. Apart from the Ozrics, they seem to be the only other band, especially in mainstream music, who are releasing stuff that's worthy of their reputation, and interesting to listen to. Only if some these Muse and Kasabian fans had heard of the Ozrics, Yum Yum Tree would have been massive. Kasabian, now that's a band that's releasing more and more blander stuff with each album, but their lorded up as gods gift to brittish music at the moment. It's criminal how an album like Yum Yum Tree gets completely overlooked.

it is better that they be our secret than turn into pink floyd and get all fat and bloated and pretentious and having to hide their love away so much...

woah there young man........let's leave Pink Floyd alone! Seriously though Ithe lyrical integrity may have gone down since Roger's Ego went into overdrive and took off but I still think musically they had some good moments. and let's not forget in the early 70's they were huge and still doing their thing without any compromise. Obviously if they had no singing they wouldn't have been nearly so popular. Take note Ed, start writing some lyrics about the fields of Somerset

i reckon lyrics would completely destroy some of the more esoteric possibilities of the sound and make it impossible to notice them or to believe that they are there in the first place. the ozrics is not just a copy of steve hillage with newer synths. that is just one of the more obvious aspects of their sound. the way these tunes play on the mind is unique and has only ever been hinted at by the any of the band's so-called forerunners. traditional vocals would cause you to listen in a less encompassing way and distract from the inner effect of the sonic flow. i'm not suggesting that the journey would be lost from the core, but that the outer edges of the sound would be masked and its 3dimensional projection on the truly relaxed mind would be disrupted, distorted and lose its pattern, so as to render the music apparently ordinary and possessing no inner spirit such as the one with which the listener currently does communion.

Of course I was being totally ironic when I said Ed should write some lyrics

och my bad aye ! well... i don't know how widespread certain beliefs are. rumours make a group, and secrets make rumours. if there are secrets in the music, then that is bound to intrigue us. i am intrigued by the music, so now when i look at it i find secrets. secrets start rumours and rumours make reputations. there is no such thing as bad press. (except in extreme cases). reputations sell gigs and albums, t-shirts and posters. and noddy little dolls of band members for your dashboard... hm - maybe better leave the secrets OUT !!huh

I definitely agree that there is a point when band merchandising becomes a little cringeworthy, or indeed a lot. Aside from the music itself I find a t shirt and a poster is nice. A bathrobe I can live without

i like sweet breads - nice dubby track, and keeping the casio sound of wahtsupbminus away or disguising it at least... and getting reverbs right is so important... but mixing and mastering come with experience only... keep on it man - you got a really keen ear for detailed sound and it shows in your work... i really dig the stylophone sound, you seem to have made it work for you - not many people can do that !

Here are links to a radio show streaming audio from a workshop containing three pieces in which I participated in alongside the legendary krautrockers from Faust and 40+ others... (I get a few good runs in on the flute... mainly during the middle piece) the first two improv bits- "find the d" and "wildcat cage" are streamed from a radio show on this page- shows.wuog.org/crisis/2009/10/15/faust-workshop-new-jandek/the last bit is an a capella accompaniment of Faust's '...sunshine girl..." streamed from a radio show on this page- shows.wuog.org/blank-generation/2009/10/14/faust-interview/

I was feeling rather emotional when hearing this for the first time, tears rolling down my cheek. I do things repetitively. Last night I listened to it 10 times in 2 hrs. totally bril'

Soundscapes Vol.2, my new album, is now available for download from my website www.nicktoone.com . Over an hour of blissed-out instrumental guitar, synths, tuned metal percussion and other curious instruments. Music for watching the snow fall... I hope you enjoy it.

Thanks Chai. Good to see you have others playing on your tunes, I get very tired of sitting making tunes on my own.
