A weird heading I know but you'll see what I'm getting at when I ask the following question :"HAS ANYONE BEEN TO A GIG WITHOUT BEING 'UNDER THE INFLUENCE' ?"
Although the free festival scene was a great place to be during my youthful days! The toll of booze and drugs over the years has left me with all sorts of health problems of late and so I'm going to see Ozrics at Liverpool 'straight as a dye'. It's my first gig in 3 years (Hawkwind being the last one) and last time I saw OT was at the Liverpool University (too many years ago that I can't remember!). I know the music will blow me away but I just kind of feel I'll be missing out on something! like everyones partying on another 'plane' and my entry ticket to the 'said plane' ran out years ago!!!.
Oh well! If anyones going to Liverpool and wants to drop a couple of 'e's in me water while I'm standing at the bar looking all paranoid, feel free to !!!. At least I can tell the missus I was 'spiked' !!!!!

well, i haven't done any mind-altering drugs or alcohol in 15 years and i enjoy ozric gigs immensely... i beg to differ with folks who say they have to be fucked up to enjoy the music!
in fact you might even remember the gig the next day! music has taken the place drugs used to fill, with no nasty after-effects either! hehe

i used to go to gigs on trains and through arranged lifts so i used to get mega mashed for gigs. however when i passed my driving test i started to attend more gigs and drove myself hence not getting wasted. yes the atmos is a bit different but as mentioned above, you are far more likely to have a decent recollection of the gig the next day. no longer do i need a day or 2 to recover from a gig. dont get me wrong i feel the 'party' vibe is helped by a 'tipple or 2' of whatever takes your fancy but it's in no way essential to the experience. in fact it would be insulting to most artists to tell them they only sound good when the listener is hammered!!!

I dont think being "smashed" or f#cked up will help you enjoy the tentacles. Im pretty sure their inspiration doesn't come from booze or pharms. A cup of tea on the other hand will definetly help you see where the ozrics are coming from

Aww, dude, don't worry..... It'll be fine. I know what you're saying, I've been drug-free (well, illegal drug-free.....) for a few years now, and sometimes I miss it, especially at gigs - you can't even smoke cigarettes at gigs in the UK these days! God, seeing Sepultura with just a couple of beers was quite strange. But I enjoyed it, you know.
Like Sideards said, nowadays I think it's up to me to stand up for my principles and live as an example that the music is good enough in itself. Go and have a mosh to "Kick Muck" or something similar to get your body's natural endorphins flowing, if necessary - I love that, and no-one can call you a druggy just for taking a bit of healthy exercise. By 'Eck, when Seps played "Desperate Cry" I was down there at the front like a maniac, and it all fits in with the spirit of the evening without getting anyone upset.
Have fun, maybe see you out there!

it all depends on what drugs you are using and what your intent is when using them.
i stick to the natural entheogens.

I've never heard people would listen to Ozrics while being on drugs.
I don't even drink alcohol and I enjoy Ozrics with a clear head.

I'm completely sober and drugless, and I have been for a long time now. Every Ozrics gig I've been to has been under no influence (except the influence of the Ozrics' explicitly psychedelic music). Not only have I really enjoyed every show (I've been to about 5 now), but I also, quite possibly, went more crazy than anyone else there (apart from the band). So, I don't think any intoxicants are necissary, but it's natural that you have fears about missing out, since, for you, it's always been the other way in the past. But why don't you try it once?
