I've been getting nostalgic on classic Ozric tunes lately...playing along on the bass and remembering how amazingly creative Roly was on the bass. The synergy he had with his brother was astounding. They sounded so perfect together....Like two perfectly cut pieces dovetailed together as one.
Roly passed away 9 years ago this Halloween and I am feeling just as sad today as I did the day I heard what had happened. Such a shame that he was never able to get beyond his crippling depression and appreciate his life.
We all miss him and my thoughts go out to his family on this day......

Hi bogmon, are you aware of the fact that 'Pyramids on Mars' was remastered and released to honour Roly Wynne's music? Or perhaps you've got a copy of that double-disc album already... Anyway - we'll be listening to it this Halloween, for sure...

I enjoy cold beer, loose women and English character actor Charles Gray, 1928-2000. And soup.

Best musician ever. Also did some really good EBM/psytrance stuff. I can't come within a mile of choosing a favorite Roly Wynne thing.

Greatest respect and admiration for Roly, his unique musical contribution continues in his influence on hundreds and thousands of musicians. Indirectly, through his recordings, Roly taught me much about playing bass and developing an individual voice on the instrument. Big up Roly!

I was listening to Pungent Effulgent on the way and on the way home from work today, and the live version of Ayurvedic, at the end called Ayurvedism is just magnificent, i know its a cheesy word, but it is innit...magnificent. From beginning to end its an opus of sheer quality.
The reason i post this on this thread is that, it's not just that i think its probably some of the best bass i've ever heard, but the telepathy between the brothers thats going on all the way through it, up to its climax, the whole track stands out for the way they seem to know exactly what the other one's gonna do before they do it, leaving the sound of Roly's bass and Ed's lead guitar to swim around each other and form a real psychedlic tapestry of musical genius....magnificent.
Just quickly modified my post, as i've only just noticed that i've gained an extra point...cheers to whoever granted me that.

It certainly is Mr Mill, I was raving about this track and Mervs amazing drumming on it a few week ago (on here). It's one of the best live releases by anyone. Roly was and will continue to remain the best bass player in the band. I love the others don't get me wrong (big respect to Zia and Vinny) but Roly was the greatest. In the early days of the band they used to jam much more than the band does now, Roly didn't always play every gig but I soon noticed that the gigs he played were the best ones. There definately was an element of telepathy involved as you say. Listening back to some of these gigs on tapes I am always struck by how Roly never really played the same line twice. He would always introduce fresh rythmic variations and syncopations, almost as if he had to prove to himself that the line could me interpreted in a quadzillion differing ways.

Ask and ye shall receive. Speaking of Pyramids on Mars, where does one obtain this obscure gem? Would love to see it on Bandcamp, it's easy as pie to make happen, hint hint...
