My daughter's off too Ministry of Sound this weekend and its rapidly turning into her place of choice as its not that far away, thus making me feel two things in particular, one, old, and two, jealous. My daughter seems to be into todays equivalent of trance, house music which to my ears has changed a bit, but still recognisable to what i was into, when i used to go out. Anyway because of her, i've dug out some of my old tapes, which i cant play no more, as i dont have cassette deck anymore, but what i did do was note down a couple of the albums i still got and looked them up on Youtube. The one's that for me still really hold up are the first two Renaissance albums, mixed by Sasha and John Digweed. So having listened to both of them on Youtube, i had a look on iTunes for them, but to no avail, they're consigned to the past. What i have done though, is get John Digweeds later stuff, Structures and Structures Two, both albums are top notch and the mixing is really smooth and if you haven't heard of him, check him out. To put an Ozrics slant to this, i've always felt that Spirals in Hyperspace would've really benefited from being mixed as a continous album, DJ style... Shame, i think that would of turned what is a decent album into one of the Ozrics strongest offerings.

Always liked a bit of progressive house or whatever the term is. I went to a club in about 2000 with an anarchist sporting dreads - I don't know what we expected to find as we were not "clubbers", only really going to Goa Trance events previously. Anyway, this was a small venue in Newcastle's chinatown and was pretty deserted, but this track started playing and we immediately got in the mood. The melancholic trancey sound just sent us into another dimension. It didn't last as a large party of townies came in shortly after and kicked the DJ out, replacing him with someone playing chart music.
Anyway, I discovered a taste for this style thereafter and that period was great - artists like Circulation and Satoshi Tomeii, as well as the Global Underground compilations, all sounding very futuristic, polished and timeless.
