I turned 40 this September. I don't have kids (yet, hopefully) but I live in a country with around 70% taxation, I reckon, direct and indirect. I have an OK job and I live in a small town 2 hours away from the capital. Taking all that in mind, I go out rather irregularly, ranging between the very occasional three nights a month to the more common once a month, once every couple of months. I go to very reasonably priced (6-10€) psychedelic electronic all-nighters almost exclusively nowadays. I don't have the balls to take psychedelics anymore, so it's usually smokes and booze (which I bring from home) - one of the few good things here, the smoking ban was never taken seriously.
Care to share your night out routines and rituals, if any?

44, one kid, besides being tired most of the time due to work, I've also built an intolerance to alcohol, plus I have tinnitus so - no nights out for me. Now I prefer Netflix and chill. I really have no desires to go out, did my share of partying since the late 80s.
But I am going to risk it (tinnitus) with Eat Static on 28th, wouldn't miss a local show for the world!

Well I work 3 jobs ...deliver cleaning supplies during day 11 hours weekend at a d.i.y store and deliver pizzas of an evening. I like all sorts of music and go to gigs and concerts, not bad for a 59 year old.
Never married no kids, love ladies and see many but have a favourite, we see many gigs together and holiday...London, Scarborough, Amsterdam and for next year Jersey.

Funny topic , I will chime in...
I am 42 , have a 5 yr old son and have inherited 2 teenagers 😆 I live with my girlfriend in good old South Uk . We try to go out where possible to see bands , my girlfriend is a gifted musician and we share some similarities (!) in music taste , we went to see The Orb last month which was great. Would like to see Cinematic Orchestra next month if funds allow but we shall see...

They don't mush up the sound as much as the foam ones and you won't worsen your tinnitus. Other than a couple of local jazz acts (one of which was great) I have seen Iron Maiden, that's about it this year. Guess I don't get out much... too busy getting studio tan or listening to records. Going to see Steven Wilson next week though, then Opeth in February.

Is there no one under 40 left here then? Eddie, you deserve all the fun you're having man. My wife doesn't like any of my music, and my baby-handful of friends only accompany me very occasionally, so 99% of the time I go on my own. I find it hard to be sociable when listening to psychedelic music stoned and drunk so that works best for me.

Is there no one under 40 left here then? I never said... No, I am nearing that age where I should understand life the universe & everything. According to Douglas Adams.

They sound a bit tired on stage these days, which is not surprising considering Ozzy, Iommi and Butler's ages. They were quite good when I saw them here in 2005 but Ozzy and Ward were keeping them from being great IMO.
I watched Zeppelin's Celebration Day in the summer and it was a fantastic performance, they would blow Sabbath off stage very easily. I know Zeppelin's show was a one-off and Sabbath have been touring, but I reckon that on a good day Zep are vastly superior.

I can't comment on live performances but Led Zeppelin weren't half the band Sabbath were for me. And that's coming from someone who grew up with all the Zep albums. Zeppelin had some great tracks (No Quarter, Kashmir, The Rain Song) but I find their albums a bit patchy, and Robert Plant never knew when to shut up. Sabbath just have something dark and compelling that grabs me. And no-one drums like Bill Ward, that swing feel. Yes, I may be a tad biased!

46 years old, disabled due to more ailments than you could shake a stick at,can only stand for up to minute, before the spinal problems kicks in,so no gigs for me!.On so many prescription drugs a day,it is silly! (20+).So my only release is music on the headphones!.Neighbors complained about my 'real' music,so keep it to headphones nowadays, they said it scared their children!,even though I only played it between 1-3 pm!.So they were at school anyway!.They obviously didn't appreciate stuff like 'Hey Joe','Spiral Architect','Element 115','Fetch Me The Pongmaster',and 'Levitation'.....
At least due to the speaker ban,I got into decent headphones, and headphone amps!,so now have a pair of AKG K702's,running off a 'Little Dot MK2' headphone amp, with all upgraded Russian tubes, all connected together with high grade, home made,interconnects....(I can still solder.....Just!) And,although I shouldn't,I do partake in a few cans of the good old Kronenbourg 1664,before a listening session, all at the kitchen table....
Thats as good as it gets for me!.
But I am grateful for small mercies!.

Levitation - good choice. Your neighbours have no taste evidently.

Levitation - good choice. Your neighbours have no taste evidently. You are so right!. Although they found my very occasional afternoon music 'blasts' totally unacceptable,it didn't seem to bother them, playing the likes of Robbie Williams, U2,Westlife,Boyzone,Take That, and the like,( I must of heard that F****R Bono,on repeat, more times than is healthy) at full volume, late into the night, which,TBH was laughable,as I could hear it distorting from my usual spot at the kitchen table!.... Come on!,It isn't my fault they decided on a 'trendy' IPOD dock (it sounded like one, don't know for sure),instead of a 'proper' mix of 'fill your room up' quality vintage HI-FI gear!.... They moved out a few years back,to another street in the village, but still come back and visit me every now and again to slash my car tires,or shoot out the windows. They even tried to poison the dog!. Some people have no taste!. How can you NOT like Hendrix,Sabbath,Hawkwind,Eatstatic,OMD,Depeche Mode,Kraftwork,The Moody Blues,Led Zep,Pink Floyd,Eric Burdon,a healthy dose of Megadeth and Manowar, and of course,The Ozrics? ?? LOL!

I also have tickets to see Depeche Mode a band I have seen many a time over the years and never seen less than a great show every time. In the eighties I was at Wembley arena with 6 mates we was doing the can-can and the lights was on us for crowd to see and we got a massive cheer. Hey I was a lot younger back then.

Seriously though,'World In My Eyes' is a great tune!,especially played through some decent (ish) Hi-Fi!. Another few bands, that I used to listen to a lot, were 'Baker Gurvitz Army' (1st album),and 'Deep Purple's Fireball', 'Rainbow's Rising','Iron Maiden's 'Iron Maiden' & 'Killers',and the title track to 'Seventh Son,Of A Seventh Son'....

LOL!,I can only imagine!.We all were a lot younger then buddy! I remember the first time I ever heard 'The Talking Heads,Once In A Lifetime',back in the 70's,blew me away, even as a little kid!,other tunes to impress me,and I still listen to today, were 'Jeff Wayne's,War Of The Worlds' albums, and 'Ian Dury and the Blockheads,Hit Me With Your Rhythm Stick','Spandau Ballet's,Journey Into Glory' album, 'Visage,Fade To Grey','Adam and the Ants,Kings of the Wild Frontier',and of course,'Ultravox,Vienna'!!!!!. I just wish I got to go to the Stonehenge free festival's,but alas,I was only a young teen, with no cash, living near the Norfolk coast, with no possible way of getting there.... Ahhhh!,the good ole days!.....

This be the greatest concert I've been.... what a performance by Queen. Hard to pick one but if I had to that'd be my first Ozrics gig late '97. Metallica in '93 was beyond incredible too.

I was 15 when 'Live Aid' was happening, and was a big 'Iron Maiden' fan,so I was not too bothered that I could not afford to go.I watched the majority of it on TV mind. From what I can remember,I loved 'Queen' ,'Howard Jones','Sabbath','Phil Collins' sets, but if I remember rightly, there was no 'Genesis' tunes played. At the time,I was well into 'Genesis',and would of loved to of heard 'Home By The Sea pt 1+2' live!.

well, I missed the Eat Static gig because it was an all nighter which started at 11pm with three DJs before Merv, so I passsed on that.
But I did go to see Ne Obliviscaris and Enslaved, a thoroughly enjoyable metal show especially the Aussies - what a band, what a performance! And ear plugs helped all through the show.
