Wow... I am shocked and stunned. This is a major loss for the entire world. Like the burning down of the library in Alexandra for Ozrics fans. I wonder what they did take with them when they had to evacuate. I am really sad and will have to put on some ozric tentacles right now and I will make sure to dedicate my bands next release to the Wynne family. All that lost music that is done forever........I am at a loss for words.. peace and love..

Really sorry to hear about this - I cant imagine how you must feel about this (just thinking about all the "stuff" in my house that I would hate to loose....).

Hope things can get back to "normal" soon for you and everyone else affected.

However you want to proceed, we'll be checking in daily to see how we can assist. I feel pleased to be part of this cool online community and a fan of a band that has consistently flown in the face of mediocrity.

Ugh....feeling gutted. So many pieces of musical history lost to mother nature's unforgiving way.

Ed, Brandi, and Silas, I can only imagine what you all must be feeling in this moment.

the Ozrics have been a part of my life for almost 17 years now and remain near and dear to me. I hope there might be some way I can give back in the future to assist in you rebuilding your life in Colorado (or perhaps somewhere else out West).

Ozric fans in Oregon always ready to help.....we'll stay tuned in.

As a long time Ozric fanatic, this is devastating News! But, in these kinds situations, you first and foremost need to look at what you all still have, and that is your blessed lives and endless creative energy! We will all miss the treasures that made up the Ozric History! We will now with even greater enthusiasm embrace the new history to come from this amazing group!

Brandi, your Non-Profit idea is exciting and we all want to help in anyway possible. Have you considered using Kickstarter (www.kickstarter.com) as a method to raise some dollars to get things moving? I have seen some very impressive numbers (I know thats a dirty thought) come from there. Check it out. It would allow all Ozric Fans across the globe to be a financial backer to your current project or even the building of a new studio or whatever Ozric needs!

I wish you all the very best and my thoughts have been and will continue to be with you all!

Time to go Spend some cash at the Ozric Tentacles Shop!!!!!

a kickstarter would be a quick way for all loyal fans and family to help out. Worth a shot....maybe throw everyone a live recording in return or something?

Ugh! Those pics are chilling.

Yes, Kickstarter or PledgeMusic are pretty good ways of interacting directly with fans and raising some funds. We should set up some universal archive or Ozric museum.

Is that the archive? Those reels on the floor, were they the original Pungent Effulgent, Erpland, Strangeitude, Underslunky, Jurassic Shift, Arborescence, Become the Other 2" tapes? :'(

I would hazard a guess the second pic has what 'was' a Trident mixing console ?
The circular reels do look about 2" 24 track tape size :'( ??

Red = burnt metal oxide that shed from the mylar backing ?

Oh my god, knowing that you've lost something is very different from seeing it destroyed right before your eyes. I wonder how you mustered the courage to put those smilies into your posts Brandi, even if you were being sarcastic.

Yep! I think the ones on the top are each individual track from "Become the Other" and "Waterfall Cities" . . . meanwhile the Trident is over on this side (underneath the stove!)

Well, we'll find it under there at some point at least . . . ???

Your kick start idea is very good. I really can not wait to get this charity going, it's something I've been holding on to for a very long time, and if I can take our tragedy and turn it into something good for everyone, then it helps to mend the spirits of all of us. . . The only thing holding me back from starting an account at the moment is I can not work out what the non-profit should be called, we've discussed: Fair Trade Music, Forearth.org, forall.com, foroneandall.com . . .I kinda don't want to call it Fair Trade Music in that I would like to be able to have more than musicians involved, . . . or maybe I just turn Ozrics.com into it . . . I don't know. Can you help us find a name?

I do not quite understand the nuts and bolts of a not for profit venture in this context but a few name ideas off the top of my head???:

Forwardthinkingventures
Creativeco-op
Togethermovingforwards
Thetogetherco-op
Co-op4creativity
Merch4thefuture
ArtistsCo-op

I know a little about SEO (search engine optimization and you defo want the dot com for best international google page position) and if you can put the key word in the URL that people would search for, it will get a better google page position. On this basis maybe something like creativeco-op/artistsco-op would be the best of the above. Something further to consider when considering the domain name. I am sure you will choose a good name.

Obviously you are gonna have a ton of things in your mind but check back on this on for future ref, if Ed is up for keeping familiar with the desk.. this place has a Trident T24 for sale US based:

http://www.primalgear.com/uptrtse24co.html

Also I imagine you used the mixer for recording as well as mixing but this bit of software is not too shabby if you are mixing in the computer anyway these days and want to downscale the recording desk.

It models an SSL, NEVE, API and Trident console. Anyway more food for thought.. http://www.slatedigital.com/products/vcc/ (basically a plug in on each track channel in your mixing software and the stereo master bus, and it models the frequency response, distortion and crosstalk between channels and the stereo master bus - as sampled on the desks themselves)

Edit : another one (a good place to look too for mixing desks in general your side of the pond) THIS ONE HAS A PHANTOM POWER ISSUE so you would need to get a tech to sort that out for condenser mics/active DI's etc.

Just a thought:

agiftofwings.com

something involving phoenix is probably too obvious.

I'll keep thinking on it.

Just before we had our reunion (after 24 years), I wrote this with a view to it being used... it wasn't...
so it has sat in my computer for another twelve years... until now!
If Ed, Brandi & Silas would like to add their music and use it... it's a "Wynne/win" situation,
as a track on a benefit CD for all who have suffered the ordeal of fire.... then found that life goes on.

"O U T O F T H E A S H E S "
c. Mick Brockett (1998/2001)

(Instrumental intro),

(spoken) Beyond recognition the carcass seemed dead,
" the fire that devoured him were flames in his head.
" a smoldering hunger ate through his heart
" while the ashes remained as a new place to start.
(gtr.)
(sung) then out of the ashes , a soul stirring sound
that captured the minds of the people around
a sound that rose up to review where he'd been.
a process that tugged at our hearts from within

(refrain) out of the ashes a soul still survived,
up from the ashes a new sound did rise

a sound pure and sweet soon became one of power
arousing the spirits in their ivory towers
then the phoenix arose, with a good heart and wise
showing right over wrong, showing truth over lies.
(gtr./keys)
(distant refrain) out of the ashes a soul still survived
up from the ashes a new sound will rise

soaring on wings made of rhythm and soul
turning into the winds as he looked down below,
all were amazed at this new life now spawned
a message to all that a new day had dawned.
(gtr solo)

It was a layered tapestry, beginning with only synth keys and graduating to a full blown rocker for
the final verse and guitar solo.
P.S. "Outoftheashes.org" could also be a non profit idea.

BTW, How did the Friday benefit gig work out? That was so typical, you guys are the best!
Mick.

Hi,
Not an Ozrics fan yet (I'm kicking myself for not purchasing some music while at NEARfest to help support you guys), I am a progressive / RIO / Space nut and what I've heard from you guys is excellent.

Just wanted to send some well wishes for you guys. I think you are a very professional, creative act, and what very little I've heard of your music I've enjoyed. Sorry to hear of your tragedy. I'll be coming back here to check up on things and see how everything is going. As soon as I can get some money together, I plan to purchase your music to help move the recovery along. Good luck.

My best,
Ian

The name must start with Ozric, people must know whos running it/organised it.

How gutting is it to know all those master tapes have been lost especially after the quality of the recent Double CD remastered re-issues.I Hope other material from each album period can be found to make up for any losses & add to any future Double CD re-issues.

Does anyone else have the feeling that the next album is going to be something (even more) special & significant than the rest?

I mean I think I would literally buy anything Ozrics recorded. Any chance of setting up in a room with what you have and just playing ? Recording it to a flash recorder stereo 2 track in a room literally balancing the music as it was recorded back in the old days. Play for an hour and sell it for 10-15.00 online. Something unedited off the cuff and full of spirit. I would love it.

I think the issue at the moment will be the band are in shock and dealing with a lot of practical and organizational problems, so we have to be patient and let them work their plan out. Good luck with it and we are here.

very very wise words SAS247, i really cant imagine how they are feeling at the mo. However, I do know Brandi & Ed are very strong, given time, i am confident they'll muster up some fantastic ideas to get it all back on track, what thats Shpongle album called? "Nothing lasts, but Nothing is lost" ...

I think all "us lot" can do at this moment is give out as many positive vibes as possible. That really does go along way : -)
